Self Esteem Tips For Elder Care Giving Relatives
Maintaining a high self-esteem as an older adult senior is not easy, as one cannot motivate and do the things they once did in their younger days. Living alone is also a tough one, and it can take its toll on the psyche as well. Psychologists and researchers show that high-self esteem in older years is very important to one’s healthy body, thus, the concept of Mind, Body, and Soul together and treated as one comes into play.
If you have older relatives that openly discuss suicide, you need to take these hints, clues or discussions seriously. If a senior is having a tough time coping, it makes sense to have meaningful visits with grandchildren or get them to volunteer once a week, or even getting them a pet can do a lot of good. When seniors lose their ability to drive a car, this can often trigger long term depression, as they feel like their freedom is being taken away from them.
Of course, if their skills to drive are gone, they can seriously hurt someone or themselves. Making it a catch-22. When seniors lose their eye-sight or hearing it can be equally devastating as they have no one to talk to or visit anymore. Calling them and talking to them on the phone can be a wonderful thing, as long as you realize the time zones and their older years sleeping schedule.
And finally, older folks over time get very set in their ways about religion, politics and such things, but they like to discuss that which they know, so engage them, agree to disagree, but do not fight them on it, rather ask them questions, you might learn something. Please consider these issues.
